Location: London and Cheltenham. As part of the application process, you’ll need to select which organisation you’re applying for. Both are London-based, but the MI6 role will be based in Cheltenham for up to the first 2 years.
Salary: MI5 £37,281 rising to £40,303 after 1 year, MI6 £39,704 rising to £42,684 after 2 years.
Flexible working: 36 hours a week full time (MI5), 37 hours a week full time (MI6). Office-based, with no remote or flexible working available during the training period. After this, flexible working may be possible, subject to business need.

We have opportunities available with both MI5 and MI6, and depending on which organisation you join, the role may differ slightly. One thing’s for sure – whichever organisation you choose, you’ll play a vital role as part of an analysis team working to protect the UK. You’ll use skills gained on our varied training programmes that’ll help you make sense of the information we gather and solve key questions in our investigations. And you won’t be on your own. You’ll work in close partnership with Intelligence Officers, passing on your new-found intelligence and drawing on each other’s expertise. If you apply to work at MI5, you’ll be based in London. The MI6 role is also London-based, but you’ll be in Cheltenham for the first two years. Please note that you may not apply for both organisations.
To join, you’ll have (or be expecting) a 2:2 degree in any subject, or have relevant work experience where you’ve demonstrated some of the key skills and qualities required. We need all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds to share different ways of thinking. Importantly, you’ll be logical, methodical and detail-oriented, and keen to share your natural curiosity and ideas with those around you. You’ll also have a real desire to learn and develop.

To be eligible, you must also be a British Citizen. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK.
