MI5 and MI6 are part of the UK’s Intelligence Services. We work together to safeguard Britain’s people, interests, and businesses from various threats at home, overseas, and online: including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Working across our vital missions, you’ll deliver impact at the heart of national security, all within a supportive and inclusive environment that allows everyone to thrive.
As a Knowledge and Information Specialist, you’ll operate in our increasingly data-driven organisations where information is at the heart of all we do. This is a people-facing role where you’ll meet the requirements of our customers, provide advice and guidance, and maximise the impact of our data. You won’t be inputting information; this is a role where you’ll be a subject matter expert, working with a range of unique, interesting, and unusual information, helping us to put data at the forefront of our business outcomes and inform key decision-making.
At MI5, you’ll work within the Data Office which is responsible for records data management, information and knowledge management, policy, and data governance. There may also be line management opportunities, depending on the posting.
At MI6, you’ll be part of a team working across a number of related subject areas such as policy, information and knowledge management, data management, data governance and compliance.
Whichever organisation you join, you’ll have a key role in enabling digital transformation, remaining adaptable to technological changes - which could include overseeing a range of systems and ensuring developments in information management tools are implemented.
Creative and proactive, you’ll take ownership of your work. You might already be familiar with an electronic document and records management system or have been involved with archiving and knowledge management. Importantly, you’ll be a problem-solver with a willingness to contribute your skills and develop new ways of working.
To join, you’ll need a professional qualification in data/information/records management or data governance or a minimum of two years relevant experience in a data, information or records management.
Upon joining, you’ll have an induction and be assigned a ‘buddy’, who’ll provide help and advice as you settle in. You’ll also have access to plenty of training and development opportunities, as well as a range of sports, social and interest clubs within our organisations. In our open, inclusive culture, you’ll also find a number of affinity groups, including ethnic minority and gender equality networks, mental health, neurodiversity and disability groups, faith/no faith and LGBTQ+ communities, and more.
At MI5 and MI6 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Find out more about our culture, working environment and diversity on our websites.
