The Role

The Solutions Team exists to help our biggest customers explore and understand the opportunities available to them through Microsoft technology. Our focus is on three core areas, Modern Workplace, Business Applications and Azure.

Modern Workplace is all about productivity, empowering organisations work smarter so they can do more through Microsoft 365, which contains all the Microsoft applications you'll be familiar with like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams, as well as powerful security and insightful data analytics. This part of Solutions also handles all our devices, giving large organisations the tools they need create and collaborate effectively.

Business Applications or Dynamics 365, is a set of AI-powered applications which help to run the biggest organisations. From analysing the carbon footprint of an entire supply chain, to predicting when machinery will break before it happens, there's not a lot you can't do with the right business application.

Azure is our cloud-computing solution, it's essentially a vast network of ultra-secure computer servers which organisations can access via the internet when they subscribe to the service. This means businesses can access powerful computing power, unlimited storage, and a platform to build AI-powered tools, without investing in expensive on-premises servers. What would you do if you could access a super-computer from your laptop?

STU Technology Specialist Intern Role Overview

The role of a Technology Specialist is to prove the concept developed by the Solution Specialists and the client. This can be done through a demo, explaining or use of presentation to explain the Microsoft Product in depth. For the Technology Specialist to be able to their best job, we need to first understand the customers problems and understand their inefficiencies to be able to provide a solution that truly fixes the problem deeper than just generalising. The Technology Specialist will also be communicating with partners to understand what solutions they have available to support a client resolution. It is also required to understand the other Microsoft products and how they can bd integrated.

Understand the customer requirements well enough to be able to build a solution that captures each of the problems detailed by the customer. This can include RFIs and RFPs. After the solution has been developed and you are happy that it resolves the customer problem, it is time to build a demo that takes into account a detailed demonstration that will be understood by all stakeholders. Also build around a story. Working towards the demo by reading through excel sheets or customer requirements to find ways to build a demo that touches upon all the elements and the demo can show value to prove the concept beyond doubt.

As a Technology Specialist, you are required to be learning constantly of new technology and how they can be included in our portfolio to help our customers.

Key responsibilities

  • You will build and maintain relationships with executive business and technical decision-makers.
  • Articulate and present the business value of Microsoft’s solutions.
  • Develop a firm understanding of Microsoft’s strategies and product offerings relative to our major competitors
  • Build a go to market strategy, that leverages Microsoft internal and partner ecosystem resources to scale for success across the territory.
  • Drive engagement with a customer and lead a team to support the sales process from initial engagement to sales to post sales usage of the product.
  • Work alongside Business Development and Solutions Architect teams who source, generate and qualify opportunities within the sales lifecycle.
  • Enable, manage, and implement, cutting edge and legacy technologies in large enterprises.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a STEM related subject, Business/IT combined or have undertaken some technical training.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong writing and presentation skills 
  • Customer relationship experience a plus
  • Passion for technology, both consumer and enterprise 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft productivity suite of tools a benefit​ 
  • Drive engagement with a customer and lead a team to support the sales process from initial engagement to sales to post sales usage of the product.
  • Desire to make a positive impact on the world through technology and business solutions a must
  • Must be in their penultimate year of university and eligible for a 12 month internship in the UK starting July 2021
  • Must have right to work for the full duration of the internship without need for sponsorship
