In this role, you will plan, execute and integrate a range of communications activities including content development, publishing, measurement and other operations in coordination with other teams and stakeholders both internal and external. You also plan and execute Public and Government Affairs activities to advocate for Mondelēz International’s interests and coordinate a range of related transactions or communications with the public and government officials.
How you will contribute
In this role you will be part of a high-performing Corporate and Government Affairs team in the UK and Ireland which is responsible for delivering public and government affairs and corporate communications strategies for the business.
You will be a business adviser who manages government relations, corporate and social media communications, media relations and issues management, each of which contributes to promote and protect Mondelēz International’s reputation and licence to operate.
This is a role which requires you to think globally and collaborate with colleagues from around the world to learn, improve and share best practices.

- Government affairs and corporate communications, preferably in a multinational FMCG organization, or a political setting, industry association or communications/public affairs agency
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills

What you will do
You will execute Mondelēz International’s corporate affairs strategy in the UK and Ireland, with accountability for leading certain areas with support and counsel from the External Affairs Lead, UK&I.
You will help drive the government relations and communications plan including stakeholder and political engagement, partner with leaders and senior colleagues to support external communications and public affairs priorities, and handle media relations including our busy press office with the support of established agency partners.
You will also play an important role in topics within our sustainability strategy, including human rights, and the responsible sourcing of our ingredients, specifically Cocoa Life, which is our established global programme aiming to secure a supply of more sustainable cocoa.
Major Activities – Government Relations
- Work with internal experts to understand the impact of Government policy on our business and assist with the devising responses
- Play a role within the team to establish and maintain relationships with key Government departments, political advisors, Parliamentarians, and other stakeholders, in order to ensure they are aware of Mondelēz International’s position, work and policy concerns
- Lead on engagement with Scottish Government on devolved policy issues that are most important to the business – most notably health and obesity
- Write briefing papers, submissions, letters and other texts for internal and external audiences, to initiate and inform debate on key public policy issues
- Lead select CGA corporate events including our annual Parliamentary Reception in Westminster
- Work closely with the wider European Public Affairs team to ensure seamless engagement on major, cross-market, industry issues.
Major Activities – External Communications
- Provide strategic guidance and advice on communications to senior management and colleagues across Mondelēz International.
- Support in the creation and delivery of proactive and engaging external communications plans based on the priorities of the business. Help set clear objectives, strategy, and plans, and manage agency resource to support delivery
- Deliver proactive news generation across key business areas including corporate strategy, product innovation, health & well-being, and sustainability
- Apply a content-first approach by creating compelling content for multiple channels including news releases, social channels and our UK website pages
- Nurture relationships with key journalists though direct contact and regular meetings and devise a press contact programme for key spokespeople
- Lead the busy press office, with agency support where required, by responding to requests in order to manage stories and secure comment opportunities. This includes operating an out of hours press office rota within the team
- Work closely with the retained corporate communications agencies.
Other accountabilities
- Take the lead on specific policy areas relating to key pillars of Mondelēz’s sustainability strategy – namely Sustainable Ingredients and Human Rights, and develop a clear understanding of the relevant UK policy landscape and how its impacts our business
- Lead on the Mondelēz’s Retailer Engagement Platform for UK&I by leveraging customers insights to support to the sales organisation in building knowledge around ESG
- Provide support for the External Affairs team by managing our internal finance administration, including raising POs.
The responsibilities of this position are performed within the framework of a regional business model that is defined and managed by Mondelēz Europe GmbH, Switzerland.
