MoneySavingExpert (MSE) is launching a paid internship scheme this year, and we’re looking for aspiring journalists and media creatives to join us. You can expect to be welcomed into a buzzing media organisation which always puts the consumer first – helping them save money, and campaigning on their behalf for financial justice.

    The role

The three-month programme will embed interns with our busy news team, our social media gurus and our money-saving analysts, providing opportunities to write and publish stories and create multi-channel content that reaches an audience of 10m+ a month. If you’re passionate about journalism, communicating complex ideas, and fighting consumers’ corner then we want to hear from you.

    What we’re looking for

You don’t need any formal experience in media or journalism. You might be studying towards a qualification or a recent graduate with a journalism or media degree, have written for a local/school/university paper, or run your own online blog. All you need is demonstrable passion for media and journalism. The scheme is designed to support aspiring journalists, so applications are only open to those that have yet to establish a career in the profession, and not those already working in the industry. The internship will last for three months and will run from October 2023.

    What you need to know

    • Start date: October 2023
    • Salary: Real London Living Wage - £11.95/hour (£1,941/month gross).
    • Location: MSE Towers in Soho, London
    • Hybrid working: We have a hybrid approach to office working and working where you decide best. As a guide you can expect to spend 40% of your time in the office and 60% where you decide best
    • Contract: 35 hour working week
    • Duration: Three months- October to December
    • Assessment/Interview process: To apply please upload a CV. The next stage should you be successful will be to submit either a piece of work (this could be an article, blog or a cover letter). We will then have an assessment day which will take place week commencing 31st July
    • We are partnering with We Are Black Journo’s to host an event on ‘Careers in Journalism’ on 26th July (spaces will be limited)

This internship is open to anyone who has a pre-existing right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship as unfortunately we’re not able to offer visa sponsorship. You don’t need a degree or other educational qualifications. You’ll just need to be over 18. We recognise the significant under-representation of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic professionals within journalism and the media in the UK. For this reason, the internship will be aimed primarily at Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates.
