    As a Graduate Engineer within Airwave’s Systems Integration & Test Team you will be involved in innovative and high-profile projects delivering solutions of critical importance. The Systems Integration & Test Team touch every part of Airwave; you will be involved in the full product life cycle ranging from generation of ideas, developing business cases, producing proof of concepts, setting up projects, full test governance and life cycle testing, as well as full laboratory and operational testing. You will develop and provide technical expertise and support to colleagues, customers and suppliers.

    The role

    You will be in a position to provide a fresh view on current best practice and have the opportunities to develop software and implement new ideas. You will be expected to contribute to process improvements resulting in the implementation of effective and efficient business operational changes.

    • Support the design verification of public safety communication solutions.
    • Develop test automation systems and software development
    • Review functionality and design, create and execute testing, highlighting any issues encountered and opportunities for improvement.
    • Create testing documentation and run test scripts based on customer requirements for both ongoing and new projects and solutions.
    • Conduct investigations across the full product life cycle, including user acceptance testing.
    • Provide technical expertise supporting the design and enhancements to the Airwave network.
    • Develop strategies to support testing and verification activities for national/regional projects.
    • Design novel solutions to complex network and customer coverage problems, including verification requirements.
    • Engage with and provide technical detail direct to suppliers or third parties on any issues encountered and influence design changes.
    • Develop and verify network performance and coverage testing for Airwave tools. Develop performance management data to improve network performance and enhance the service offering to Airwave customers.
    • Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams including Product managers, Project Managers, Solution Architects, Technical design Authorities and third party suppliers in both face to face meetings and written formats.
    • Providing technical expertise to support a wide range of BAU and project-related activities, including support for international ventures.

    Additional responsibilities

    • Stay abreast of new and emerging technologies or new products that could be exploited to reduce cost or increase performance or reliability.
    • Work closely with a Senior or Principle Engineers on customer deliverable projects to acquire technical knowledge and experience best practice procedures.
    • Attend regular project review meetings and ad hoc development meetings

    About you 

    • First degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, Telecommunications or related subject - Essential
    • A genuine interest in IT, software development, communications and emerging technologies and how they can be used to maximise an organisations potential and improve the customer experience. - Essential
    • Sound understanding of digital communications systems, software development, and IT systems particularly mobile / cellular radio networks. - Essential
    • The desire to develop software and test new applications and solutions which will greatly enhance the operation of emergency services users - Essential
    • Desire to learn about the business and the bigger picture of development. - Essential
    • Desire to want to increase IT knowledge and skill sets and progress career. - Essential
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to gain trust, build rapport and influence others. - Essential
    • Full UK clean driving licence. - Essential
    • First degree study with some element of telecommunications, electronic or software development. - Desirable
