Our placement student opportunities will provide you with the chance to work within the water/wastewater sector. You will have the opportunity to work within a close knit team with other students, graduates and experienced employees.
Your placement will be for a period of 6 to 12 months. We are looking for a student working towards a degree in Civil Engineering. This role will be based in our Welsh Water, Newport office in South Wales.
Water is an essential part of our everyday lives; therefore, our teams are responsible for water pumping solutions, clean and wastewater treatment plants, and pipelines. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a project or a small portfolio of water/wastewater projects of various sizes from outline design to completion.

To join us for a placement year you must currently be at University looking for a placement year in industry.
You’ll be given the opportunity to learn from a variety of people while understanding our values and culture. It’s also a great chance to get involved with real projects while gaining relevant experience.
We do not have a formal structure for our placements, so you can really make the role your own. The more you get involved and the more questions you ask, the more you will gain from your experience with us.
At Mott MacDonald Bentley, we are looking for students with the following characteristics:
- A methodical approach to problem solving
- The ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail with the ability to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
