    The role

    Our UK Medical Affairs team supports pipeline assets from early phase through launch and beyond. The team works cross functionally with R&D, commercial, external affairs, market access and other essential partners both within the organisation as well as externally.     The Medical Excellence team brings together our scientific and business acumen into our overall strategic and tactical decision making. We use state-of-the-art platforms and business models for analysis, planning, reporting and digital evaluation. This allows the organization to continue advancing medical innovation and improve lives. The Devolved Nations Medical Affairs team is part of the wider medical excellence team and strives to provide medical affairs resource for the Devolved Nations (DN) to further external effectiveness and impact, address health inequalities and improve patient access to medicines.

    This is a 24-month rotational programme within the Devolved Nations Medical Affairs and Devolved Nations Market Access teams.

    Rotations

    Rotation 1: 12 months Medical Affairs- Devolved Nations – based in London/remote-time on territory in devolved nations

    You will begin your journey in our Devolved Nations Medical Affairs team within the Medical Excellence Department where you will be supporting a variety of projects (with a strong focus on oncology) and initiatives aimed at addressing health inequalities and ensuring access to our organisation’s medicines for patients in the Devolved Nations. You will also be responsible for supporting projects which deliver patient impact and the provision of medical education tailored to meet the needs of patients (and health care professionals) within the Devolved Nations.

    This role will involve extensive cross-functional collaboration with the Devolved Nations Global Human Health commercial team which will include market access and health technology appraisal teams, in addition to other teams within the medical affairs department including the oncology pipeline team, and teams within medical excellence.

    Duties (include but are not limited to):

    • Build an understanding of the UK Medical Affairs organisation
    • Work cross-functionally within the Devolved Nations team to undertake the delivery of specific (or support the delivery of) projects e.g. patient awareness projects, medical education initiatives.
    • Where appropriate and with support from the DN medical affairs team, play a role in identifying, developing and maintaining credible relationships with Devolved Nations healthcare professionals, health boards, health and social care partnerships, healthcare providers and charities.
    • Developing partnerships with market access, regulatory and development colleagues to appropriately and rapidly gain access for patients to our medicines e.g. Health Technology Appraisals, patient access schemes, compassionate use programmes.

    Rotation 2: 12 months Medical Affairs- Market Access – based in London/remote-time on territory in devolved nations

    The Devolved Nations team (within the Value, Access and Devolved Nations business unit) are a market access team accountable for the achievement of favourable local access and uptake environments for our organisation’s brands within the Devolved Nations (Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland. The team main objective is to shape the environment through partnership with the NHS and the implementation of appropriate national policy and market access plans. Activities include pathway development and optimisation, NHS collaboration and market expansion and the translation of evolving devolved healthcare priorities into insights and opportunities for our organisation in the UK. Whilst the primary focus is Oncology the team have the flexibility to operate across our organisation’s portfolio and pivot to emerging opportunities and areas of unmet need.

    Duties (include but are not limited to):

    • Pathway development and optimisation, NHS collaboration and market expansion
    • The translation of evolving devolved healthcare priorities into insights and opportunities for our organisation in the UK.
    • Collaboration across our organisation’s internal functions to develop Devolved Nation strategic plans and manage portfolio risk and opportunity
    • Management of relationships with key external stakeholders across the portfolio

    Throughout the 24-month scheme you will receive guidance and mentoring to not only help you through your current role, but also to prepare you for applications to permanent roles within the organisation, with the aim that you will hopefully continue your career journey with our company.

    Technical Requirements

    • Our Graduate Programmes are entry level programmes and designed for graduates with limited or no prior work experience within this field. If you already have 3+ years’ experience within this field, we recommend exploring other opportunities available on our website
    • Studying/studied towards a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a medicine, life sciences, pharmacy discipline. Other qualifications may be considered such as Health Economics, either predicted or gained within the last two years
    • Project management experience with examples of delivering initiatives from start to finish with clear goals and objectives
    • Demonstrates planning and organisational skills
