    The Role

    The Laboratory Technician has the following responsibilities:

    • Perform support tasks related to the processing and analysis of test specimens.
    • Accurately complete assigned duties in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for logging and scanning of samples to proprietary applications/databases, updating task management system, initial quality controls and appropriate storage of samples.
    • Be accountable for processing sample data received from clients and monitoring data completeness feeding back to the Technical Account Executive.
    • Responsible for receiving and cataloguing supplies including reagents and chemicals into the lab.
    • Perform in-house Quality measurements and calibration of scientific equipment.
    • Perform cell lysis utilising multichannel micropipettes and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Prepare reagents and maintain reagent/chemical stock levels.
    • Ensure product quality by performing in-process checks, complying with current good lab practices, being alert for any deviation to a process, and participating on quality improvement projects.
    • Performs documentation necessary to allow proper accountability and traceability of product in an ISO17025 environment.
    • Conduct appropriate work in accordance with applicable and established SOPs, applicable regulations, and company policies and procedures.
    • Prepare all necessary reagents and consumables required for sample processing.
    • Utilise light microscope, dissects muscle fibers from animal tissue.
    • Dispose of samples in accordance with SOPs and local and national guidelines.
    • Lead the process for maintaining customer stock levels and shipments between Company labs.
    • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by performing tasks in an organized and consistent fashion.
    • Team-oriented, value workplace collaboration, and can work with minimal supervision.
    • Strong attention to detail; A demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
    • Take ownership of personal training and learning to develop skills to continuously improve.
    • Attend training classes, workshops, meetings, etc., as needed to improve job skills.
    • Any other duties that are in-keeping with the role as appropriate.

    Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required

    • Degree in Science or relevant field.
    • Strong pipetting skills and experience.
    • Experience and comfort level working with chemicals in a lab setting.
    • Demonstrates effective communication skills to convey and receive information.
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite and basic computer skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
