“What are you doing after you graduate?”

There it is, that question again. How many times, how many people have asked you this?

Let me make it easier for you. You will join National Gas on an 18 month graduate scheme, completing 2, 6 month placements across our System Operations department, with one broadening placement giving you a well-rounded skillset.

    So, who are we?

National Gas Transmission is the backbone of Britain’s energy system today and will play a leading role in the transition to a clean energy future that works for every home and business. We own and operate the national gas network, delivering energy to where it is needed in every part of the country.

We keep households warm and underpin their quality of life. For business, we fuel growth and innovation, and we are looking to the future by developing the hydrogen transmission system of tomorrow.

    The role

The Graduate placement you are applying for is in the Commercial and Incentives team, they are the hub for regulated commercial activities. The team is responsible for ensuring that we are compliant with commercial framework obligations, contracts and owns the commercial strategies that are enacted in the National Control Centre.

The Commercial Operations team is also responsible for delivering and optimising the GSO incentives which delivers value for both value for customers and Gas Transmission. However, you won’t be working in silo’s, collaboration is key so you will link in with other areas of the business such as Strategy & Regulation, finance, IT and other areas within the System Operator.

Your broadening placement could be anywhere in the business where you will gain a wider understanding of how we work operationally and the impact we have on society. This could be in Operations, Commercial, Procurement, Regulation, Asset and Technology.

We welcome all graduates from diverse backgrounds, as we know diverse minds bring new ideas and a different way of thinking. There is a requirement to have a degree in any field.

We offer hybrid working, however the office base for this role is in Warwick and whilst on the scheme there are benefits to you by spending more time with colleagues either in the office, at sites or in external events, so we would expect at least 50% of your time to be with colleagues directly to maximise your learning from the scheme.

A driving licence is essential for you to be successful in this role.

What can you expect from us

It’s not just a job you’re applying for, you’ll also receive a range of benefits that reward your great work. Your starting annual salary will be c.£33k, together with a bonus scheme, a generous holiday allowance, as well as ‘welcome’ payment.
