    About the role

    Strategic Infrastructure delivers major strategic UK electricity transmission projects, focused on connecting more clean, low-carbon power to England and Wales. Strategic Infrastructure is a part of National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and is responsible for delivering 17 major new projects to connect more clean, low-carbon power to the transmission network in England and Wales.

    These projects play a vital part in achieving the UK Government’s ambition of connecting 50GW of offshore wind by 2030. They will be delivered under the regulator’s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework. As well as these 17 projects, Strategic Infrastructure will also focus on the early-stage development of other strategic infrastructure that Ofgem has requested.

    You will be part of a team providing an expert land rights service and you’ll will get the opportunity to understand the importance of securing land rights within the context of a new infrastructure project. In the role you’ll have exposure and involvement in the delivery of start to finish land activities for New Infrastructure projects, including securing access to land for survey, securing land rights, and the negotiation of compensation settlements. 

    You will be contract managing suppliers to deliver a high quality lands service and gain an experience of working within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) as well as all internal and external stakeholders to support overall project delivery from a Lands lens. You will gain experience in project, programme, risk, contract and financial management, including accurate and timely customer reporting.

    You will secure understanding and knowledge of the legal and regulatory lands related parameters that National Grid work within, including the range of statutory powers available. You will also gain understanding and knowledge of the consenting regimes and processes relevant to complex linear projects is preferred. This includes the Planning Act (2008) Development Consent Order and Compulsory Purchase Order processes and practice including the compensation code.

    What you'll need

    You'll need to achieve a 2.1 degree; however it doesn’t matter when you got this or if you are currently working towards it. We just need you to be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting. Your degree and education background should be in an Environment, Planning, Geography or lands related discipline.

    Flexibility to travel and/or work unsupervised will be required on occasion throughout the placement.

    Ideally you would have a valid UK Driving License.

    Location

    This role is based in Leeds and offers flexible, hybrid working.
