    As well as providing National Grid with strong financial performance, successful operation of these interconnectors offers the GB System Operator a greater diversity of supply, facilitates competition across Europe and helps address the intermittency issues posed by renewables.

    When you join our 12-week Internship, you’ll provide technical support to the Interconnectors business to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable assets across our portfolio of Interconnectors. Your involvement will directly impact how we manage, design, operate and maintain our assets, in addition to great exposure to construction activities.

    As an Interconnector Intern Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to work across a variety of projects within Interconnectors. Some of these will focus on Interconnectors and others will be focusing on upcoming projects in the design phases.

    No week will be the same, collaborating well with other people will be vital to succeed in this role. Examples of work for an Interconnector Intern Engineer include:

    • Identifying innovative asset management interventions and applying these to our assets
    • Contributing to new Interconnector projects
    • Solving problems that arise during design phases with an engineering focus
    • Analysing technical documentation and making recommendations

    You will be joining the growing Interconnector team at an exciting time, with the Net Zero challenges and new projects being investigated, Interconnectors is at the heart of this within National Grid Ventures.

    About You

    You’ll be studying for a Numerical, Engineering, Business, Finance, or Computing degree and be on track to achieve a minimum 2.2. You’ll have a genuine interest and passion in the Energy Industry and how it works.

    You have problem solving and analytical skills with innovative thinking, an interest in the Energy transition to net zero, HV technologies and the UK energy industry, and a desire to develop yourself in both technical and non-technical skills, such as striving for Chartership (if Engineer) and also developing your own personal skills.

    Ideally, you’ll also have a valid full UK Driving Licence, but not essential.

    We are proud to offer a starting salary of £20,919 (pro-rata based on a 12-week placement).
