    What youll be doing

    Are you interested in a career in finance after university? Our one-year placement programme is a great opportunity to learn on the job in a large, evolving organisation that spends around £5billion a year to build and improve the strategic road network.

    Working alongside experienced professionals across our finance divisions, you’ll be exposed to a range of different areas and specialist teams such as Finance Business Partnering and Corporate Assurance.

    You’ll gain a breadth of valuable experience whilst supporting the key financial services that make a real difference to our organisation.

    This is an ideal placement for anyone studying accounting, business, economics or finance-related subjects. However, we’re happy to consider you whatever your degree subject if you can demonstrate a keen interest in finance.

    What youll need to succeed

    If you have the passion to succeed that we see in our placement students every day, you’ll be a great match. You’ll have:

    • The ability to plan and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines

    You’ll also need to meet these essential entry requirements:

    • Currently studying in your second year of an undergraduate degree
    • Your degree is in a Finance-related subject, or you are able to demonstrate a keen interest in Finance

    It is key to know all offers of placements are subject to satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks. This includes a Right to Work check, reference check and a DBS criminal record check.

    Our finance directorate is responsible for managing the company's £4 billion a year finances, overall governance, assurance and risk management, managing the company's large and dispersed estate, processing damages claims and the operation of the Dart Charge facility. A lot of what we do is like oil in the organisational machinery. We make the business work more smoothly and we help everyone to do their jobs better.
