NPL is looking for Scientists based in Teddington to be trained in and then be responsible for the delivery of technical activities to support customers through the provision of our Measurement Services, and to support our ongoing research.
We are looking to fill multiple positions within our Hydrogen, Decarbonising Heat, Air Quality and Emissions, and Climate teams which are all part of NPL’s Gas Metrology Group.
The primary responsibilities
- Preparation and analysis of gas mixtures
- Working collaboratively as part of a team to expand and improve the measurement capabilities in our laboratories
- Ensuring the standard of delivery of your own work (to time, cost and quality with focus on the customer in accordance with the NPL quality system)
- Taking reasonable duty of care for Health & Safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work and always follow direct instructions given with regards to Health & Safety

About you
The applicant should have a graduate or undergraduate (as a minimum) science or engineering-related degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, physics or similar or some experience working with gases in a laboratory environment. Additional points are optional but highly beneficial, experience includes:
- Experience with working with gas analysers / pressurised gas systems
- Interest in one of the scientific fields mentioned above (Hydrogen, Decarbonising Heat, Air Quality and Emissions, or Climate)
- Ability to independently plan, organise and prioritise their own research work
The successful candidate will be expected to learn complex methods and processes quickly and be able to demonstrate competence against our quality system, as required to work in our accredited environment.
