About the role
Have you ever wondered how Network Rail plan the changes to timetables or changes to the rail network? Our System Operator teams do this by working nationally to plan changes to the operational railway through planning the timetable and through setting out the strategy of what happens next.
Strategy is anything from what happens tomorrow if an extra train needs to run through to seeking investment for changes and enhancements over the next 30+ years.
Our Advanced Timetable Analysts undertake pieces of analysis to help inform from a capacity perspective what is a good idea to invest money and people in. This can involve suggesting schemes and explaining why something is a good or bad idea. Our colleagues in System Operator will take our advice along with several other considerations (affordability, buildability etc.) to set out Network Rail’s strategy.
