    The role

    The Technology Support Engineers sit within Technology Support which is a corporate wide service that aims to maximises the effective use of hardware (Laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops etc), productivity software, digital communications, including collaborative technologies, and digital information systems.

    The team implements a toolkit of IT hardware, software and licencing to meet agreed targets and deliver a high quality of customer support. It is a practical role and requires some physical effort when moving IT hardware or setting up office spaces. Technology Support Engineers work in areas across the County.

    We have key hubs in Scarborough, Ryedale, Hambleton, Richmondshire, Harrogate, Skipton and Selby. There may be times where a Technology Support Engineer travels between areas. Our aim is to provide local support to our customers who are based in the community. Working for IT in North Yorkshire Council requires flexibility and self-motivation alongside active participation in teamwork.

    The Technology Support Engineers are a mobile team who work with our internal customers in their workplace environments to resolve IT incidents and queries. The team share knowledge and upskilling on the key productivity features and drive the access to a vast range of IT tools to help colleagues realise their IT business benefits.

    It can be fast paced environment at times, and elements of the role will require decision making in high profile situations. A calm measured approach will be essential. It is an exciting time to join the Technology Support team as we help navigate our customers through an evolving technical landscape.

    There will be opportunities for hybrid working across many sites and some home working when required. Some travel will be necessary for this post and a valid driving licence is necessary.

    Experience/Qualifications

    • An understanding of IT industry best practises and procedures
    • An understanding of ITIL change, incident, request fulfilment and problem management processes
    • A good level of Windows operating system experience
    • Broad technical knowledge of pc’s/laptops/peripherals and their architecture
    • A working knowledge of current software packages – Microsoft Office etc.
    • ICT industry experience
    • Experience of working as part of a team
