This Business Development Executive (BDE) role sits within the Marketing & Business Development (MBD) function and the Europe, Middle East & Asia (EMEA) region at Norton Rose Fulbright. The role will provide support on day to day and strategic business development and marketing activity for our Technology and Consumer sector groups and Intellectual Property, IT & Data and Competition, Litigation and Investigations practice groups, particularly supporting the partners across all groups. This includes involvement in client development, BD meetings and activity, campaign management, pitches and events.
The role
This broad role supports two business development managers. - one manager responsible for the Technology and Consumer sectors (Technology, Automotive and Communications, Media & Entertainment and Consumer Markets) with a particular focus on Intellectual Property, IT & Data, and a second manager responsible for dispute resolution and litigation which also includes competition and investigations. The role holder will work in close cooperation with global MBD teams, our Knowledge team and our expanding MBD support team in Newcastle.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting with all aspects of planning and development of business development activity and the targeting of marketing activity (all channels)
- Working with the sector/practice group leadership teams and BD Managers to plan and implement business plans, budget proposals and campaign plans for the EMEA region.
- Implementing BD and marketing activity for the practice and sector. This includes, but is not limited to, business development, client development, profile raising, marketing and communications, pitching and event management.
- Acting as a key point of contact and ambassador for the sector/practice with the wider business, MBD and other key stakeholders
- Establishing a close and effective relationship with the lawyers and partners within the sector and practice
- Producing bespoke bids, pitches and other client development presentations/content (formal and informal)
- Supporting client development plans and activities
- Working closely with other MBD teams, for example, client relationship team, strategic bids, events, design and digital, and our expanding Newcastle Hub
- Coordinating practice and sector directory submissions, credentials and marketing collateral production
- Supporting the management of practice and sector MBD budgets, including reporting of ROI
- Contributing and leading on best practice and being curious about the possible
Person specification
- Graduate calibre with demonstrable and/or professionally recognised marketing or communications qualification (such as CIM, etc)
- Experience in marketing and business development is desirable, as is experience of working in a legal/professional services/partnership environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including good attention to detail
- Confident and willing to take on additional responsibility as required
- Highly organised with a professional, confident, collaborative and proactive approach to their role
- Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple tasks and stakeholders, with the ability to respond quickly to requests with a short turnaround time
- Experienced in managing and writing bids
- Understands the need and has the ability to manage expectations
- A genuine interest in the Technology and Consumer Market sectors, and a willingness to learn more.
