The Opportunity
Are you thinking about a possible career in museums and galleries, or at the beginning of your museum career?
We are looking for an enthusiastic intern with an interest in portraits, history and people. This temporary paid internship is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the sector and how museums operate, with a particular focus on Fine Art portrait collections, both on display and in store.
The opportunity has arisen thanks a nationwide partnership between the National Portrait Gallery and twelve partner museums, as part of theirInspiring People project which includes an extensive programme of nationwide activities, funded by The National Heritage Lottery Fund and Art Fund.
Based at Nottingham City Museums' Collections Centre (situated approx 3 miles north of Nottingham City Centre) and working across our museum sites, you will be supported to develop the technical skills and knowledge to enable you to secure future employment in the Museums & Galleries sector. You will also have an opportunity to connect to the National Portrait Gallery and be part of the wider network of interns at all partner venues.
The paid internship is full-time for 6 months and must be completed by 23 June 2023.
Essential Requirements
- Able to demonstrate interest in and enthusiasm for art, museums and galleries.
- Willing to learn and take responsibility for own development.
- Able to develop organisation skills and take responsibility for own workload.
- Awareness of customer care practices and approaches.
- Awareness of best practice in caring for and presenting art collections to the public.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively.
