As an International Sales Intern, your role will be to support the sales and marketing efforts of the International Sales team, allowing you to learn a raft of core transferable skills that can be used as a stepping stone to a full-time role.
You will act as a point of contact for stock and sales queries and requests, provide data and materials for sales trips, and help optimise the sell-in process by creating and updating order forms and presentations.
Key areas you will gain experience in
- Work closely with Pan Macmillan's sister companies in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India and North America, to provide them with support which will help drive sales of their U.K list in these territories
- Field ad-hoc queries from customers on price, availability of books and print details; liaise on these requests with Operations, Production & UK sales
- Support the export team with trip preparation, which includes running various sales reports, securing samples, assembling presentations and other varied requests in advance of meetings and travel
- Help provide covers, manuscripts and other assets needed for meetings and trips
- Work regularly with internal publishing systems and programs, including Biblio, Midas, International Bookscan and Vista to prepare sales summaries and reports
- Support with European wholesaler catalogue data
- Attend team meetings with the wider international group, engaging in discussions about current publications and helping to generate ideas for sell in and promotion
- Liaise with Customer Service/MDL (warehouse) and various other departments across the business
- Create and update order forms/sell sheets: general, genre and author specific
You may also be asked and learn how to:
- Submit new titles for review by the US trade press
- Assist Senior Communications Executive with communications round ups
- Support with PowerPoint presentations prepared for and shared with major brand authors
- Help gather assets and additional support for budget and forecast presentations
Knowledge, skills & experience needed
- Administration skills with the ability to organise, prioritise and manage workflow
- Highly literate, with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable with numbers and calculations
- Good knowledge of Microsoft desktop applications in particular Excel and PowerPoint
- Previous experience of in-house databases is helpful; willingness to learn bespoke systems is essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills to keep stakeholders informed and on-side
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Likes working as part of a team and is prepared to contribute ideas
- Basic knowledge of the book market/an interest in reading is essential
- An interest in international affairs is desirable
- You might have experience of either administrative or retail
