Job Description
Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) are the are the lifeblood of society, representing ~50% of global GDP, they are a critical part of PayPal’s business. The PayPal SMB team sets the global commercial priorities for how we help SMBs to sell more effectively using PayPal’s platform, through: defining differentiated value propositions, developing effective sales and marketing strategies, and unlocking new growth opportunities via partnerships and new product development.
The Global SMB Strategy Intern will be responsible for supporting the development of strategies to address and identify market gaps and new growth opportunities for the small business segment at both a local and global level.
This person will have a good understanding of the needs of small and medium businesses and will be able to synthesize market & competitive insights into actionable initiatives with direct impact on PayPal’s customer base. They will be comfortable working in a highly cross-functional team, establishing strong working relationships across sales, marketing, and product teams.

Responsibilities
Strategy Development
Support the development of PayPal’s SMB strategy across regions and sub-segments;
Project Management & Execution
Lead cross functional workstreams, delivering actionable recommendations for key stakeholders; coordinate execution of recommendations; opportunity to present results to senior team members and executives.
Research & Analysis
Take charge of identifying information sources, gathering and interpreting data, executing analysis, and presenting findings to cross functional teams and stakeholders; conduct and/or lead key qualitative (e.g., primary research, synthesis of secondary data sources) and quantitative (e.g., Excel and SQL) analysis in support of deliverables. Key analysis will include market sizing, opportunity assessment and business case development. Partner with Market Insights team to understand trends in the payments and competitive landscape and translate them into strategic insights for the segment.
Cross Functional Collaboration
Work with Marketing, Sales, Product, Finance/Analytics, Risk, Product Marketing teams across the Globe to develop and implement strategic growth opportunities.
Skills & Abilities Required
- World class strategic and analytical thinking, with a demonstrated ability to synthesize multiple sources of information (quantitative and qualitative), and to solve complex problems in a structured, data-driven way
- Strong quantitative analytical skills, able to handle and manage data and to build compelling insights and innovative strategies; excellent knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; SQL knowledge is a plus but not required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a natural talent for crafting and presenting compelling recommendations
- Combination of strategic thinking with hands on execution
- Track record of delivering tangible results
- Appetite to learn, ability to take initiative and comfortable with uncertainty
Education Required
- Studying a Bachelors degree in Management, Engineering, Economics or related subject.
- Currently enrolled in a sandwich degree at a UK University that requires a year in industry internship as part of the course
- Available to start on a 12-month full time basis from July 2022.
