    As our Statistical Analyst , you would be part of the Psychometrics and Measurement department within Pearson's global English Language Learning business area. We manage a portfolio of assessments for summative and formative uses alongside an ecosystem of resources for teachers and learners. Within English Language Learning, Psychometrics and Measurement is responsible for the psychometric analyses of test items, monitoring of test performance, and key aspects of test scoring.

    About the role

    Reporting to the Senior Manager, Scoring, the statistical analyst will conduct item and test analysis, item calibration, and other psychometric activities. You will also develop and implement research which supports the validity evidence of tests, including new test development.

    Key accountabilities

    Data Management

    • Access, combine, manipulate, and validate data files
    • Ensure international standards of data protection are adhered to
    • Contribute to customer support by providing various teams with relevant data

    Test and Item Analysis

    • Carry out routine and ad hoc analyses to support the validity and reliability of tests
    • Calibrate items to produce item statistics and maintain item bank
    • Lead on the monitoring and evaluation of item and test performance
    • Report reliability and validity statistics including test form performance, cohort performance, and performance in relation to geographic distribution
    • Escalate risks in relation to item management, security, and any other issues which become apparent in any investigation

    Technical Documentation

    • Produce technical documentation related to routine procedures, item and test performance, and any other analyses

    Internal Communication

    • Work with members of scoring teams, psychometrics and measurement, assessment research and validity, test development and other teams (i.e., product, marketing, sales)
    • If required, present the outcomes of item and test analyses to various stakeholders.

    About You

    Here at Pearson we are looking for potential - you may be currently studying for your masters/PHD or completing your education in this area or currently working in the education sector – either which way we would love to hear from you if you have a passion for data & psychometrics!

    Core Requirements

    • Educated to graduate level in applied mathematics, statistics, educational measurement, or similar
    • Experience writing syntax/code for data manipulation and statistical analyses using Excel VBA, SPSS, R, or Python
    • Ability to use of SQL queries to pull data
    • Ability to collaborate and network to deliver success
    • Passion and commitment to excellence in all that you do

    Desirable Skills (but not essential)

    • Knowledge of second language measurement
    • Experience of using Winsteps or Facets
    • Knowledge of classical test theory and item response theory
