Do you love designing? Are you looking for a career as a designer? Book design is an exciting place to be right now and we are looking for a new Design Assistant in the Puffin Picture Books illustrationed non-fiction team at Penguin Random House children's. This role is offered on a 12m fixed term contract.

    About the role

Puffin is home to so many imaginative and best-selling authors and illustrators. Our designers work on a huge range of different books but what they all have in common is clever creativity and outstanding design.

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic and organised individual to assist our design teams.

As Design Assistant you’ll work with designers and editors providing design and admin support. Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for tasks ranging from producing mock-ups, updating brand sheets and making corrections to reimagining previously published books into fresh new formats and working on your own projects where appropriate.

This is an entry level position but you should be able to demonstrate a keen design eye, good typographic skills, creative flair and a desire to learn. You’ll be a fluent user of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, with a working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

It's a great time to join Puffin - please apply with a PDF of your CV, three examples of your design work that you are most proud of and a short letter which tells us why this role caught your eye.

The closing date for this opportunity is midnight on Thursday 10th February.

Salary: You‘ll start on £24,000. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role and a further £1,000 on your second to reflect your growing contribution.
