    Penguin General, a division of Penguin Random House, publish a broad range of books from prize-winning novelists and top 10 bestsellers like Caleb Azumah Nelson, Dolly Alderton, Noam Chomsky and Zadie Smith in many genres including lifestyle, business, history, crime, literary and popular fiction.

    The role

    We are looking for a creative Junior Designer to join the Art department, working on the design of book covers and book interiors.

    Joining a team of seven, and reporting into the Art Director, you will work closely with the senior members of the team to complete existing projects, learn about pre-press processes as well as producing your own work and developing ideas towards finished book designs.

    You’ll be an integral part of a team that are working across the full breadth of publishing including fiction and non-fiction, hardback and paperback, debuts and bestselling titles.

    What you’ll bring

    We’re looking for someone with proven skill in typography and text layout, and an interest in conceptual design. You don’t need previous publishing experience, but you’ll need an interest in design for books and a passion for Graphic Design and visual culture You’ll be proficient on Mac, as well as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, and have strong organisational skills, able to work on multiple projects at once, and the ability to work to briefs and strict deadlines.

    For this role, there are meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person at our offices in Pimlico. We are open to discussing the exact balance of office to remote working through the recruitment process.

    What you can expect from us

    Salary: between £29,500 - £33,000 depending on how your skills and experience align with the role, plus bonus and benefits
