Do you like to recommend the best new books to everyone you know? Would you like to work with the team who publish Zadie Smith, Richard Osman, Dolly Alderton, Ruby Wax, Dr Rangan Chatterjee and Barack and Michelle Obama?

We are looking to hire a new Publicity Assistant. This role provides an exciting opportunity to begin or grow your career within our multi award-winning Communications team. This opportunity is offered on a 12-month fixed term contract, covering a period of secondment in the team.

    The Opportunity

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for incoming queries from journalists. You will be writing press releases and coordinating mailings. You will provide administrative support to the rest of the team, coordinate meeting agendas and create presentations, as well as processing invoices and expenses. You will work closely and collaboratively with our colleagues in editorial, sales and production to ensure our campaigns continue to be the best in class.

You will work as part of a collaborative, fun, dynamic and supportive team, curious and open to new and innovative ideas. You will have the opportunity to learn the skills of our book campaigns, and attend book events and media interviews with our wonderful authors. We work hard to nurture individual talent as part of our collective success. At Penguin General, we strive for working life to be progressive, energising, motivating and rewarding for all our colleagues at every level.

    What you’ll bring

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills – you will need to be proactive at updating on the progress of tasks, as well as sharing information about books. You’ll also need to be systematic and able to prioritise a busy work load. Attention to detail is key to this role, as well as a head for the practicalities of organising events and meetings.

You do not need to have previous publishing experience to excel in this role. Experience of Microsoft Office would be advantageous.

    How to apply

If this sounds like your next role, please apply with your CV and a covering letter addressed to Poppy North, by midnight on Monday 8th May.

As part of your covering letter, tell us about a campaign you've seen recently and why it caught your attention (within 200 words). This does not need to be book related.

What you can expect from us

Salary: You‘ll start on £26,500. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role (if the role is extended) to reflect your growing contribution.

PRH is currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. The exact balance of office to remote working will depend on the nature of your role and team needs, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

    • Discounted gym membership
    • Generous pension scheme
    • Summer working hours (role dependent)

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we're part of the offer an interview scheme. This is where disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role can opt in to get to the next recruitment stage. There may be some situations where volume of applicants means we can't take all eligible candidates to interview. We want to make sure disabled applicants can be their best at each step of the recruitment journey.
