Are you curious about the media and up to date on trends and current affairs? We’re looking for a proactive and exceptionally organised Publicity Assistant to join Penguin Press on a full-time and permanent basis.
The role
Reporting to the Publicity Director, the Publicity Assistant will act as the first point of contact for incoming queries and be responsible for the smooth running of the department through administrative duties.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing and responding to queries coming into the Publicity inbox
- Sending out seasonal press releases and weekly web bulletins to journalists
- Maintaining databases and catalogue mailings
- Liaising with teams across the company, including Editorial, Production and Sales
- Organising office mailings and bookshelves
- Booking author travel and accommodation and helping to arrange and attend events.
- Managing diaries and schedules
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive team player with excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills. You don’t need previous publishing experience; you’ll need to be keenly interested in a variety of forms of media, comfortable with technology and using MS Office, and it’s important you’re able to prioritise under pressure.
You’ll need to have meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and networking skills as you will be communicating regularly with teams across the company. Importantly, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment, come to work eager and ready to learn, and have an enthusiasm for the books published by Penguin Press.

Penguin Press publishes serious and ground-breaking non-fiction across our Allen Lane, Pelican and Particular Books imprints, with bestselling authors such as Carlo Rovelli, Lea Ypi, Michio Kaku, Naomi Klein, Ha-Joon Chang, Isabel Wilkerson, David Spiegelhalter and James Rebanks. Press is also home to the world-famous Penguin Classics library.

Salary:
You‘ll start on £26,500. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role to reflect your growing contribution.

Hybrid working:

For this role, there are regular meetings and activities occurring on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday that you will need to attend in person mainly at our office in Pimlico. Outside of these moments, you may choose to work remotely.
