We are seeking a Rights Assistant to join the team selling rights in books across four of the Penguin Random House adult divisions on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Head of Translation, you will provide key administrative support to the team that handles rights sales for our non-illustrated adult publishing at Penguin General, Penguin Press, Ebury and Cornerstone. Our list features leading authors in quality commercial and literary fiction, alongside nonfiction with a wide scope, spanning popular science and history, memoir and biography, personal development and wellbeing.

    What you'll do

As Rights Assistant, you’ll take charge of a range of tasks, manage several projects at any one time and work to deadlines that enable the team to deliver a high quality of service to our customers. You’ll work on projects for many of our leading authors including Josie Silver and Philippa Perry and liaise with international publishers as well as different departments internally.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Preparing translation rights guides
    • Negotiate, sell and supply illustration files to customers
    • Negotiate and renew expired licences
    • Provide administrative support, such as invoicing and briefing contracts, for Rights Manager and Head of Translation
    • Mail out reference copies of foreign editions to authors

If you’re a fast learner with IT literacy and confidence using the Microsoft Office suite, you don’t need publishing experience to be considered for this role as we will provide the necessary training.

We are looking for an organised individual with precise attention to detail, the ability to manage a varied workload and to prioritise effectively. The role requires strong collaborative and communication skills as you will need to build strong relationships with existing and potential customers, as well as key stakeholders in-house including colleagues in Editorial, Production and Design.

If you’re interested in joining our Rights team and learning more about the role we play within the business, please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by midnight on Tuesday 8th February.

Salary: You‘ll start on £24,000. Expect a £1,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role and a further £1,000 on your second to reflect your growing contribution.
