    We are seeking a Rights Assistant to join the team selling rights in books across four of the Penguin Random House adult divisions on a permanent basis.

    About the team

    This role will be report into the Rights Director and support the team responsible for rights sales for our non-illustrated adult publishing on the Cornerstone, Ebury, Penguin General and Penguin Press divisions. We are proud to represent a wide-ranging list of prize winning and bestselling authors spanning commercial and literary fiction, as well as nonfiction from science and history, memoir and biography, personal development and wellbeing.

    The opportunity

    As Rights Assistant, you’ll take charge of a wide range of tasks supporting a fast-paced team. You will manage several projects at any one time and work to deadlines that enable the team to deliver a high quality of service to our customers. You’ll work on projects for many of our leading authors and will liaise with international publishers and national newspapers as well as a variety of departments internally.

    Your key responsibilities will include

    • Provide administrative support, such as invoicing, processing contracts and minute-taking.
    • Regularly maintain team reports and data on internal systems.
    • Negotiate, sell and supply production files to customers.
    • Prepare rights guides in advance of book fairs and sales trips.
    • Negotiate and renew expired licences.
    • Mail out reference copies of foreign editions to authors.

    What you’ll bring

    We’d love to hear from you if you have a passion for books and literature. You don’t need publishing experience to be considered for this role as we will provide the necessary training. You’ll need to be a fast learner with confident IT skills, in particular around Microsoft Office.

    We are looking for an organised individual with precise attention to detail, the ability to manage a varied workload and to prioritise effectively. The role requires excellent collaborative and communication skills as you will need to build strong relationships with existing and potential customers, as well as key stakeholders in-house including colleagues in Editorial, Production and Design.
