    If you have an interest in how a Pharmaceutical company markets its medicines within the NHS and how the Sales Representatives clinically sell our treatments to healthcare professionals then this is a placement for an Undergraduate with that thirst and ambition to learn in one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. We are a sales team who work on a medicine that prolongs the life of patients with terminal metastatic breast cancer.

    We have marketing presentations and customer materials that we present virtually and face to face to prescribers such as Oncology Consultants. This exact team is called the Healthcare Partnership Manager team, where we work with healthcare professionals to remove any barriers to prescribing our medicines and to streamline the patient pathway in the NHS. This often means trying to problem solve for, and with, the NHS.

    The marketing team are an essential part of the UK oncology business unit, developing brand strategy and marketing programmes through close partnership with our medical and sales colleagues to market our medicines and improve patient outcomes. The Healthcare Partnership Manager team have their own dedicated marketing resource, where the undergraduate would sit working alongside the lead Marketeer for that team.

    The pharmaceutical industry is highly regulated and this role is about ensuring all our marketing materials meet required standards from the ABPI. You will work closely with our approvals team to get materials successfully into a sales colleagues hands.

    What can I achieve and what will I be accountable for whilst completing a placement at Pfizer?

    This undergraduate role is a unique marketing role within the Oncology business unit as the successful candidate will be working with the HPM team who are linked to an Oncology breast cancer drug brand. Fundamentally this team has a yearly sales target for our medicine but the role is more complex.

    Pfizer has a long term ambition to enhance it’s reputation with the NHS and be seen as a service improvement partner the NHS can work with. This team do not often clinically sell our medicines, more importantly we focus on the NHS service that delivers our medicines. Can all the patients be seen? Are they getting access to our medicines? Can we offer any solutions that make it easier to prescribe our medicines?

    Working in marketing will provide you with an opportunity to combine commercial and scientific skills to enhance our brand success by improving patient outcomes and patient experience.

    You will be part of a highly experienced team and have an opportunity to work on delivering on the HPM team vision and strategy, learning about effective project management, omnichannel and digital marketing strategy and we will ensure you are given the chance to lead and own key projects, which will provide invaluable strategic, digital and project management skills.

    There may also be opportunities to take on new projects and assignments outside of the Oncology team to enhance your skills and create a well-rounded experience for your placement year.

    Specifically, you will gain experience in

    • The delivery of the HPM plans throughout 2024-2025
    • Managing approvals for our materials in our Global Content Management system (GCMA)
    • Supporting marketing and the Omnichannel team in the development and delivery of defined activities and developments of our digital journey
    • Input into designing of materials for healthcare professionals and patients – if you are creative this helps!
    • Gathering insights on the NHS environment
    • Comprehension of the ABPI code and promoting compliance improvement within the Oncology BU
    • Cross business unit projects to contribute towards Pfizer’s Corporate Responsibility and obtain a better comprehension of the pharma industry and the type of roles it has to offer.
    • You will also have many opportunities to grow and gain experience in areas that interest you e.g shadowing sales colleagues when they meet with NHS customers.

    The role means you will build relationships across a wide range of internal colleagues from sales and marketing, through to medical affairs and training, as well as developing relationships with our Global marketing colleagues. Whether you have a medical/scientific or business background, the placement will enhance your leadership skills, education and provide a deep comprehension of the industry alongside the science of drug development and commercialization.

    When can I start?

    Placements will start on 2nd September 2024 and will run for 12 months.

    Person specification

    Type of person we are looking for, in relation to ‘Skills’, ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Motivation’:

    • Completing placement as part of University Degree either through Year In Industry/Industrial Placement or Gap Year
    • Life science or business-related degree
    • Interest in cancer medicines is helpful
    • Interest in marketing preferred
    • Good time/project management skills
    • A self-starter and able to work on own initiative as well as open to support and guidance
    • Strong social skills and a good orator
    • Interest in digital technology as a form of effective communication

    Who can apply?

    Applicants must be completing placement as part of a degree course at a UK University, either through Year in Industry/Industrial Placement or Gap Year.
