    Our Newcastle Innovation Centre focuses on developing Products for Fabric Care and Home Care on brands such as Ariel, Fairy and Bold. At NIC we are offering 12 month placement opportunities for Data Scientists BSci graduating or undergraduates seeking a year placement which will start in August or September 2022.  Deadline for applications is 8th July 2022.

    What you will bring

    The ideal candidate will bring critical skills in capturing & structuring data including the development of data models to link and activate our data across functions (Formulation, R&D and Manufacturing data). This work will involve:

    • Pushing and pulling data from databases via custom built applications
    • Building queries to link and pull data from multiple sources for use in analytics and statistical modelling
    • Developing custom reporting tools or dashboards for use by the organisation
    • Becoming an expert in the current P&G IT / data architecture and tools available to efficiently integrate any newly developed tools

    What you will learn

    Working with R&D scientists and engineers you will quickly learn about the critical parameters for making high quality products, and the impact these parameters have on products attributes. You will learn the importance of R&D data to a large organisation and how critical it is to develop the right digital tools and data models to leverage data in the most effective way. As you build this knowledge, together with capturing and structuring of the data, you will learn how to build predictive models and leverage self-learning algorithms to continually improve these models

    This Internship is a period of mutual trial and an ideal way for you to gain industrial experience. It is also an opportunity for you to look at P&G as a potential future employer and for P&G to see your capabilities.  Following a successful internship we hope to be able to recruit directly into a graduate Associate Researcher position

    • Improve their team working and leadership skills through practical experience and interactive training courses

    What we are looking for

    We enroll students from North East based Colleges and Universities from scientific and engineering disciplines into the various roles in R&D.  We also look for skills such as creativity, innovation, initiative, communication, leadership and the ability to work with others.

    • BSci or equivalent in Data Science / Computing Science
    • Programming Skills – knowledge of database query languages (SQL is preferable) and statistical programming languages like R and Python
    • Some experience in VB.Net, C+ and VBA would be a bonus
    • Databases – Some experience with and understanding of different types of database (E.g. Relational Database, Historian)
    • Statistics – Good applied statistical skills, knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression techniques
    • Other – Experience with Office 365 and data analytics / reporting tools such as PowerBI and Tableau would be beneficial
