The Field Service Engineering (FSE) apprenticeship scheme is strategically vital to the future success of our Customer Service & Equipment sales business in many ways. Most notably, it is extremely challenging to recruit individuals with the correct skillsets and work ethics from outside of the business, therefore by developing our own talent from within, we can produce a funnel of experienced and competent individuals with a customer first attitude who can progress into field based technical roles as natural attrition takes place.
Your responsibilities
You will work with engineers to carry out corrective and preventative maintenance on healthcare diagnostic equipment and systems
You will also ensure our customers’ future equipment investments are with Philips, through the delivery of best in class service levels. By doing this, you will be supporting our customers to improve the lives of 2.5 billion people by 2025 as well as developing your own skills to become a future leader in Healthcare.
You are a part of
A multi-modality team of Medical engineers working within the Imaging System sector. As a FSE Apprentice, your role underpins our technical future.
You will be assisting Engineers, learning in real life situations and gaining life skills which will develop you towards a future in medical engineering. The team is close knit and thrives via a “First time Right” mentality and you will be a key member being in the unique position of working across multi-modalities and therefore being able to establish your value across the entire team.
Duties to include
- Comply with industry health, safety and environmental working practices and regulation
- Locate and rectify faults on equipment
- Communicate with and provide information to stakeholders in line with personal role and responsibilities
- Read, understand and interpret information and work in compliance with technical specifications
- Prepare work areas to undertake work related activities and reinstate those areas after the completion
- Inspect and maintain appropriate equipment to meet operational requirements
- Assess and test the performance and condition of equipment
Communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification

Level 3 Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard to include:
- Practical Skills Units
- Portfolio of competence based evidence to meet the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours criteria as outlined in the Standard
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering to be studied on day release at Farnborough College of Technology (if required)
- End Point Assessment
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
What is the expected career progression?
- The opportunity to progress onto a Level 4 HNC

- BTEC or equivalent Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering (Grade Merit/Distinction) Desired
Things to consider
- As this is a field-based role, candidates will need to be willing to travel to hospitals throughout the South West area. Flexibility will be required in terms of work location. Any related travel costs will be fully covered by Philips
- You will be fully supported by a Philips Engineer at all times
- Candidates must have a full, clean UK driver’s license due to the nature of the travel required.
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a DBS check (criminal check) given the healthcare nature of the work
