Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd is the company responsible for all of the Pirelli Tyre related operations in the UK.
The Role
A 12 month placement is available within the R&D Department. The role involves working within the indoor test facility. The team is responsible for undertaking numerous tyre tests on a daily basis.
You will be expected to gain an understanding/competence in all technical aspects of indoor tyre testing, from understanding and implementing test methodologies through to providing daily support and assistance within the department. Supporting with the reviews of existing standard operating procedures (SOP’s), and assisting with the writing of new SOP’s will be a key part of the role.
The ‘Test House Management System’ (THMS) runs using ‘Ignition SCADA’ software. Day-to-day issues and new projects/improvements require interaction with the Ignition software (Ignition Designer).
To assist with smooth operation of the department, you will demonstrate professional behaviour and communication, developing relationships effectively both within the indoor test team, and with the customers (requestors). The customer base will be diverse, comprising local R&D and Quality, R&D from other operative units, and occasionally OEMs.
Main Duties
- To become embedded within the Indoor Tyre Testing team, providing a professional service in respect of all that this involves.
- To learn, understand and implement test methodologies, understanding their impact on tyre performance.
- To assist in ensuring the facility operates within required guidelines, respecting the various conditions defined by the regulatory bodies (China, DOT/ECE etc).
- Create ‘ad hoc’ methods if required (for example at the request of an OEM).
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Test House.
- To assist with the resolution of day-to-day issues with the THMS and implement improvements where possible.
- Any other duties as deemed necessary
Who we're looking for

- Studying to degree level (mechanical / electrical engineering or computer science preferred)
- Excellent IT skills. Programming experience is desirable

Salary for this placement is £21,979 and we will be looking for the role to start August/September 2023.
