About the role
PitchBook’s Data Operations team is responsible for the core of what we do as a company: delivering high quality data on the private market to thousands of discerning customers. This is done through our various data collection processes consisting of web-based data scraping, entering of data from publicly available documents, web researching of hard-to-find information and direct communication with executives, investors and advisors involved in transactions and fundraising.
Our 2023 Data Operations Summer Interns will work to ensure that the data being utilized in the PitchBook platform is comprehensive, accurate and timely. Our summer interns will use our in-house developed Research Tool Suite (RTS), Excel and other tools to help the team ensure our data meets high quality standards while continually increasing efficiency, productivity and quality. They will work with teams across the Data Operations department, including secondary and primary research, sourcing operations and project management. Our Summer Internship is full-time program running from June – August 2023.
Primary job responsibilities
- Research events and information pertaining to the private equity and venture capital industries (e.g. details on deals, acquired companies, company sites and investment firms)
- Gather and verify information through web research and manage the information in our research database
- Leverage our in-house database, business intelligence reports and other technology-based tools to ensure that proprietary data is audited and added to the PitchBook Platform efficiently
- Learn and develop research tracking methodologies to ensure that data is of the utmost quality
- Regularly collaborate with other data operations team members to learn about different datasets and help with various data quality initiatives
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with your team and other stakeholders to provide updates on project progress, address roadblocks and celebrate wins
- Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
- Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested
- Participate in a Career Readiness program to develop fundamental skills important for early-career employees
Skills and qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a junior in a higher education program (college or university)
- Business, Economics, Finance and related majors preferred
- Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, from June-August 2023
- Enjoy working with numbers and large quantities of data
- Appreciate well-thought-out processes, while also taking initiative and improving them further
- Love to work with a team, but can also work independently
- Strong communication skills
- Detail oriented, curious and innovative in your work
- Interest in the private equity, venture capital and M&A industries
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily
