    Plessey are looking for exceptional graduates to join our Process Engineering development team here at our high technology manufacturing site in Plymouth.

    Plessey is an embedded technologies developer at the forefront of the microLED technology for augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) display applications. Plessey announced the exciting news in March 2020 that we partnered with Meta (formerly known as Facebook) to help achieve their vision of the next computing platform centred around people.

    Plessey is an award-winning provider of full-field emissive microLED displays that combine very high intensity RGB pixel arrays with high-performance CMOS backplanes to produce very high-brightness, low power and high-frame-rate image sources for HMDs, AR and MR systems.

    About the role

    The successful candidate will work in a small team of process development and integration specialists and engineers, this is a key role involving the development of micro LED displays in AR/VR applications in conjunction with our key partner.

    The Graduate Engineer will support the day-to-day development of process stages, which might involve the operation of the process tools and the associated metrology equipment. The role involves taking responsibility of various aspects of material characterisation, data collection/reporting and wafer inspection/binning thereby contributing to the development of the microLED process in terms of improved capability, performance and yield.

    During your training you will follow a plan covering multiple process disciplines and will be mentored by your line manager while gaining the skills and knowledge you will require. As well as your pure technical responsibilities you will need great communication skills as you will be interfacing with professionals from both inside and outside the company. There will also be opportunities for project and people management leading to deserved progression up the Plessey career ladder.

    • A degree in Physics, Material Science or Chemistry

    The position is based at our high tech manufacturing site in Plymouth. During your training period you will work Monday to Friday from 8:00am until 16:30pm, with an hour for lunch.

    The successful candidates may be required to work some form of rotating shift pattern (shift premium payable) after completion of the training period.
