An opportunity has arisen to join the Facilities Engineering team at Plessey Semiconductors Ltd.
Plessey is an embedded technologies developer at the forefront of the micro-LED technology for augmented and mixed reality (AR/MR) display applications Plessey announced in March 2020 the exciting news that we partnered with Meta (formerly known as Facebook) to help achieve their vision of the next computing platform centred around people.
Plessey is an award-winning provider of full-field emissive micro-LED displays that combine very high intensity RGB pixel arrays with high-performance CMOS backplanes to produce very high-brightness, low power and high-frame-rate image sources for HMDs, AR and MR systems.
The successful candidate will be part of a team providing 7 day / 24-hour support, for the site services and utilities required to allow production of micro-electronic LED components. Applications from candidates from either electrical and/or mechanical backgrounds will be considered.
This is a permanent vacancy working at the Plessey Semiconductors Ltd site in Roborough, Plymouth.
Working hours are 2 days (7am – 7pm), 2 nights (7pm – 7am), 4 off, continuous rotating shift pattern (working 42 hours per week).

Main Responsibilities
- Preventative and corrective maintenance of all the site’s plant and equipment using site Facilities Maintenance system
- Fault finding and repair of technical failures • Undertaking improvement projects and tasks as part of the Facilities Team
- Monitoring and maintaining control of the cleanroom environmental conditions provided to manufacturing to allow successful production to occur.
- Ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are followed
- Acting as part of the site Emergency Response Team, responsible for coordinating staff and liaising with emergency services during incidents.
- Addressing and resolving process and site failures in a timely manner
- Providing technical support and supervision to vendors and contractors • Show a high level of commitment to achieving the business goals
- Demonstrate a flexible attitude and level of commitment when working on systems and equipment.
Key Skills /Qualifications Required
- A minimum HNC in Electrical or Electronic or Mechanical Engineering is preferred or suitable experience.
- Must have a logical approach to problem solving with the capability of multi-tasking
- Ability to work on own initiative or as a team with good communication skills • Organised, highly motivated and disciplined with a ‘Can Do’ attitude
- Ability to be a member of the Emergency Response Team
- Ability to work within a clean room environment
- Ability to fully participate in improvement teams
- IT skills working with CMMS and BMS packages
Experience/ Knowledge
- A sound knowledge / understanding on some of following building services
- Process Cooling water systems
- 415V Electrical distribution
- HVAC (temp and humidity – cleanroom air conditioning)
- Air compressors
- Large chillers
- Cooling towers
- High purity gas delivery systems
- De-Ionised water treatment plants
- Effluent control systems (pH neutralising)
- Process exhaust systems
- Industrial boilers
- Electrical testing (Fixed wire and PAT)
- Routine mechanical/electrical maintenance experience
- Understanding and knowledge of the legal compliance
- Prior experience with a Building Management System (desirable)
- Prior experience working as a Facilities/ Maintenance Engineer
