The role
QIAGEN Manchester is a world leading centre for molecular diagnostic applications, expanding and enhancing the delivery of life-improving diagnostic systems for existing and emerging medical needs, with a focus on companion diagnostics and personalized healthcare in infectious disease and oncology. At our brand new, custom built, state-of-the-art facility close to Manchester city centre we are located next to major hospital and university sites, reinforcing our connections with the healthcare sector and our commitment to scientific innovation. We currently have a number of fantastic opportunities for Technical Assistants within our Molecular Assay Development team supporting the development of new and existing molecular diagnostic applications utilizing state of the art RNA and DNA technologies. Opportunities are available to join on a permanent basis employed by QIAGEN, or to join on a temporary (rolling contract) basis employed by our partner agency SRG (SRGtalent.com). This will be decided by the hiring manager once interviews are complete.
Key responsibilities:
- Primarily carrying out the practical elements of studies which can include: DNA and RNA extraction using manual extraction kits and or automated instruments; qPCR setup; Gel electrophoresis; NGS Library preparation; NGS Sequencing workflows; Precision serial dilutions; Handling and processing of biological samples.
- Support the planning, execution and reporting of laboratory work and experiments.
- Accurate recording of laboratory work and experiments in laboratory notebooks or worksheets as part of a regulated environment.
- Conducting general maintenance and lab safety activities (equipment maintenance, consumable orders, receipt of material, lab stocking, housekeeping and similar activities).
- Working as part of the product development team to ensure a safe and efficient laboratory environment and ensure adherence to COSHH and Health & Safety requirements.
Position Requirements

- University degree in the area of Biological Sciences or equivalent experience working within a laboratory.
- An understanding of molecular biology techniques such as qPCR.
- Proficient in MS Office packages (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Proven organizational skills, self-motivated with attention to detail.
- Laboratory experience highly desirable.
