About the team
Capture and Bidding
We have a team of Capture and Bidding Professionals who are responsible for leading a team to deliver proposals to our customers. The bid team need to elicit/understand the customer requirements, understand what we need to do to beat the competition, create a solution and establish the cost to deliver it, and write a compelling proposal. The responsibilities of a bid manager include:
- Leading a team to a tight deadline
- Creating a bid plan and managing the plan to a tight deadline
- Shaping the response – making sure that we address the needs of the customer
What will I be doing
As Bid Graduate, you will work with teams across the UK businesses
- Be immersed into the bid team, working on a live bid, to give you a true hands-on experience. Initially you will shadow other bid managers to get a thorough understanding of the role of a bid manager. You will then take responsibility for aspects within the bid e.g. running the action tracker, managing the proposal content, graphics etc. All this is working towards the point where you can manage your bid support (with mentoring and support).
- Develop and use communication skills (written and verbal) to help position QinetiQ in customer proposals.
- Develop leadership and management skills, working with staff at all levels in the business.
- Learn skills for engaging and teaming with other companies.
- Work with Sales and Business Capture Teams on large complex opportunities at the early capture stage so that you get good insight to the activities that are needed to shape the opportunity e.g. research competitive position in advance of a black hat review,
- Have regular exposure to many internal functions including Commercial and Legal Services, Procurement, Finance and Operations.
- Become proficient in identifying and addressing the needs of our customers, whilst balancing the needs of the business.
- Learn to use judgement and creativity to help find new and innovative ways to do business.
- Learn the QinetiQ Lifecycle Framework for the Business Winning phase of the Lifecycle
- Develop skills to interact with senior leaders and stakeholders of the business
We offer a comprehensive graduate programme where you will receive first class training and support whilst working alongside experienced Bid Managers to learn the job. No two bids are ever the same. You will be exposed to a range of opportunities from air trials and evaluation to science research and software development and will make a positive impact across the business, supporting our growth.
You will be encouraged and supported in studying for an accredited qualification from the Association of Proposal Management Professionals, which is the internationally recognised body for Proposal Management. This will form part of the practical training programme that you will undertake, along with many other opportunities for formal training and skills development which will give you a practical based skillset for succeeding in the business arena.
You will have the opportunity to travel to and work at some of our other UK sites during your graduate programme, in order to get a good understanding of the business.
At the end of the two year graduate program, you will be well placed to take your next steps up the career ladder and where you have gained the necessary skills, you will be encouraged to apply for an Associate Bid Manager role within the Bid team and take on an increased level of responsibility.
By joining the Bidding team you will combine excellent organisational skills, creative thinking and strategic analysis to ensure that bids are managed effectively to deliver compelling proposals.
