    It’s an exciting time to join one of our Early Careers programmes at QinetiQ. We are always looking for great people to join our team, whether you are taking your first steps in starting a career or you are looking to make a career change, we have a wide range of exciting opportunities for you.

    About the team

    The Applied Physiology and Flight Physiology teams include individuals with specialist expertise and experience in aircrew equipment, altitude protection and aircraft life support systems, anthropometry, fatigue and sleep, high +Gz acceleration, motion capture and biomechanics, spatial disorientation, and thermal protection and physiological modelling. These specialist teams work with a broad range of teams across QinetiQ to answer customer questions by undertaking research projects, test and evaluation of equipment, and analysis of available data. The output of the work provides advice and recommendations to customers to ensure the safety of military and civilian personnel, and to optimise operational performance of individuals required to operate in complex, hazardous, or physiologically stressful environments. While the teams are based at Farnborough, Hampshire, the majority of trials work takes place at other locations including facilities at Boscombe Down, Haslar or RAF Cranwell

    What will I be doing

    You will develop an understanding and gain experience of a range of elements of human research trials and assessments to meet customer requirements. Working in collaboration with other members of the research team, and in line with research ethical processes and procedures, you will help with the completion of human and equipment trials at a number of unique research facilities (e.g. human centrifuge and altitude facilities). You will gain experience of the human research trials process including trials planning and preparation, participant recruitment, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of findings in the form of customer reports, scientific manuscripts, and customer presentations. You will develop an understanding of customer requirements and how these requirements can be met, together with how information is presented to, and used by, the customer. Although based at Farnborough, Hampshire, the role requires staff to travel regularly to other sites to assist in the running of trials. As many of these sites are not readily accessed by public transport, individuals should be aware of the need to drive to these locations and, in some circumstances, the need to stay overnight close to the trial site. Generally, the trial team travels together in a hire car, with individuals sharing the driving.

    Academic requirements

    You will need to have obtained a degree with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed below:

    • Human Physiology;
    • Sports Science;
    • Biological Sciences;
    • Space and Aviation Physiology.

    Additional requirements:

    • Have an enquiring mind, unafraid to ask questions;
    • Have a current driving licence.
    • Please be aware that many roles within QinetiQ will be subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit those roles you can perform for the organisation.
    • You must be prepared to go through the Government Vetting process. For further details please refer to, United Kingdom Security Vetting - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

    Location(s)

    • Farnborough, Hampshire;
    • Boscombe Down, Wiltshire (trials locations);
    • RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire (trials locations);
    • Other military establishments (as trials require).
