As a Mechanical Engineer on Industrial Placement you will be responsible for providing engineering support and working in a group primarily consisting of mechanical design engineers. You will participate in projects for the design of mechanical and opto-mechanical hardware to support visual display products with guidance from technical leads.

Primary responsibilities

  • Creation of assembly drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and technical documentation in accordance with company quality procedures.
  • Update drawings and documentation from vendor and installation feedback.
  • Review specifications and other data to develop preliminary mechanical layouts leading to detail design.
  • Contribute to the development of new products as well as modify existing products or processes to increase efficiency or improve performance.
  • Liaison with internal customers, equipment suppliers and subcontractors associated with programs.
  • Contribute to internal design reviews and be prepared to present design.

Basic qualifications

  • Studying for a degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering.

Preferred experience

  • 3-d CAD experience using an industry recognised product. SolidWorks will be the software used for mechanical design and detailing.
  • Familiarity with relevant components of BS8888 which are required to produce CAD drawings for manufacture.
  • Understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes required for machined and fabricated parts.
