We commission practice notes and precedents that help legal professionals obtain quick, accurate answers to specific points of law, reduce their research time and keep up to date with the latest developments. We also commission case commentary pieces focusing on key legal judgments and their implications for practitioners, within a quicker turnaround time.

    We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Commissioning Editor to play a key role in the continued success of our commissioning programme for the online practical guidance service LexisPSL by commissioning leading professionals to write for us. The successful candidate will have a law degree or similar and be a self-motivated, enthusiastic and conscientious individual with a strong interest in the legal market.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Manage the end to end commissioning process from ‘request for content’ through to publication, working in the prescribed processes with the designated software and tools.
    • Conduct comprehensive research to find appropriate authors according to practice area and relevant topics.
    • Commission leading authors as identified during the research phase and recommended by the relevant LexisNexis teams.
    • Always work within the timelines, deadlines and budget specified.
    • Negotiate contractual terms across all commissioning work undertaken.
    • Work closely and develop excellent relationships with other LexisNexis teams and external authors.
    • Continually look for improvements to existing commissioning processes to increase efficiency.
    • Report on usage trends and progress using data analytics/reporting tools.

    Skills required:

    • Strong analytical and research skills.
    • Articulate and literate with the ability to express the benefits of writing for LexisNexis in a compelling and appealing way.
    • A highly organised approach to managing workload.
    • Strong commercial focus, with an understanding of translating the needs of lawyers into commercially viable content.
    • Ability to plan and deliver content on time and to achieve agreed financial budgets and targets.
    • A keen eye for detail, able to edit short commentary pieces for house style where necessary (legal editing not required).
    • Self-confident and credible, able to establish a rapport with leading members of the profession and win their trust and confidence.
    • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
    • Team player with excellent communication skills.
    • Flexible approach and willingness to go the extra mile to achieve deadlines.
    • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects.
    • An ability and willingness to work collaboratively in order to achieve results.
