    The Graduate Controls Engineer will support renewable energy projects by implementing and optimising control systems (PLC Code/ HMI Interfaces) for power plant operations using industry standard Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Software and Automation Controllers.

    Key accountabilities

    Reporting to the SCADA and Controls Manager (Group Engineering), you will support in the implementation and project commissioning of Energy Management systems (EMS) and Power Plant Controllers.

    This will include the following activities:

    • Develop EMS & PPC hardware, graphical user interfaces and PLC code to provide high-level control to Energy storage systems, solar farms, and hybrid power plants.
    • Develop edge device-based control systems.
    • Develop communication protocols and methodology between project assets and grid operators to allow grid operator remote dispatch.
    • Provide support and develop project SCADA hardware and PLC code for projects on a global basis.
    • Deploy, commission and support site acceptance testing for RES projects.
    • Willingness to travel to support real world deployments globally, and other RES Offices.

    Knowledge

    • Control System Theory
    • Knowledge of PLC programming languages

    • Communication Protocols (Modbus/DNP3/OPC-UA/MQTT)
    • Commissioning and Test Methods

    Skills

    • PLC Programming (e.g. Allen Bradley)
    • SCADA Software configuration (e.g. Ignition)
    • Developing control applications in C#, C++, Java or Python
    • Fault Finding

    About you

    • Relevant experience completing controls development projects or internships
    • Programming of PLCs. (Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE Fanuc, Mitsubishi)
    • Implementation and testing of systems
    • Renewable Energy Basics

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Electrical or Control Systems Engineering
