Job Purpose
The Technical Analyst (TA) role is an important role within the Technical department, focused primarily on technical support of solar projects in the design and permitting phases, delivering expertise on layout design and yield assessment. The TA will also contribute to the Technical Service team's support of wind farm development. The TA has responsibility for providing technical support to teams in all key markets and ensuring that task delivery is aligned with project programmes, budget and scope.
Organisational Context
The TA reports to the Head of Technical Services, within Group Technical. To be successful in a competitive market the TA will need to work on projects throughout the RES regions and provide all required technical assessments and deliverables following budgets, programmes, scopes and expectations.
Accountabilities
- Quality control of wind/solar data prior to analysis
- Early to late phase and simple to complex solar resource assessments in all markets
- Early to late phase solar energy yield assessments in all markets with PVsyst and in-house software
- PV panel layout designs and optimisation (solar farms) in GIS
- Time series modelling of resource (wind and solar), for assessment of grid, and other, constraints
- Post construction analysis (wind and solar) – analysis of operational data
- Technical support for solar farm permit/planning applications
- Technical input into PV panel procurement agreements
- Follow best practice for all of the above technical assessments
- Develop relationships inside RES to maintain a high level of knowledge and competency
- Technical support for transactions and closing projects including management of technical due diligence and condition compliance
- Ad hoc analysis and tool development using Python programming language and SQL.
- Continuous improvement of technical process within the Technical team
Knowledge
- Solar resource assessment process
- Energy yield and layout design process (primarily solar but wind also desirable)
- Knowledge of basic statistics
- Planning/development process for UK & other RES markets would be useful
Skills
- PVsyst
- ESRI ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD
- Programming, especially in Python
- Computer literacy esp. Microsoft Office & Excel
- Good report writing skills
- Good team player
- Statistics and numeracy
Experience
- Solar farm design
- Yield analyses using PVsyst
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering Science or related discipline or equivalent level of professional experience.
