    We are offering 12 months HFI (Simulation) Industrial Placement role to start in September 2024.

    As a Human Factors Integration (HFI) / Simulation Industrial Placement student, you will be working as part of an integrated engineering team to develop both design solutions and the simulation system that will support the design, development and testing of the our systems. The 5 crewstation simulator is based on the Unreal Engine with a bespoke sysnthetic environment, within which vehicles and UAV/UGVs operate.

    You must have an interest in human factors, UI/UX, simulation and computer games, and the ability to deliver projects on time, and to the required quality.

    The candidate must be a team player who is prepared to work with a multi-site engineering team within RBSL and the customer community.

    In addition to HFI and simulation you will be getting involved in systems modelling, and test and evaluation.

    Position duties and responsibilities

    • Support the development of a simulation test rig based on the Unreal Engine.
    • Develop the synthetic environment, it’s artificats and the HMI/UI, including the control logic between them.
    • Provide creative input to the development of the user interfaces.
    • Coordinating with the wider Engineering team to ensure the simulator design sufficiently represents the (concept) vehicle design.
    • Support the design and develop of vehicle mockups (simulation, VR, 3D printing, AI, etc.), and their use in conducting end-user assessments.
    • Produce the required documentation and reports of the simulation development and testing.
    • Working with Customer, User, Engineering and Procurement teams assist in resolving design queries, problems and conflicts.
    • Participate in internal and external meetings, briefings and design reviews. This may involve:
    • Undertaking technical presentations.
    • The generation and review of technical reports and reporting on progress.
    • Participating in technical debate and group problem solving.
    • Briefing and working with Customers and Users.

    About you

    • Working towards a relevant engineering or games design/multimedia degree (or similar) and on track for at least a 2:2.
    • Competentent with a range of software application including Microsoft and Unreal Engine. Blender and CAD are desired.
    • Creative thinking / problem solving mind-set
    • Numerate with strong analytical skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills – a team player.
    • Desire to grow own knowledge and play a key role at RBSL
