Join our dynamic team at Roche and contribute to meaningful initiatives in sustainability and innovation. Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability #IP2TIS offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

As a sustainability and innovation intern, you will work on cutting-edge projects that align with our commitment to environmental responsibility, social impact, and forward-thinking solutions.

    The role

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) team is a diverse team of psychologists, statisticians and measurement experts focused on measuring what matters most to patients and families. In partnership with other teams, we design measurement and evidence generation strategies and implement this into clinical trials for new medicines.

As technology has evolved, so have the opportunities to collect patient-centered data through devices like mobile phones, tablet devices and wearables. This has removed barriers for decentralised clinical trials and enables us to reach more diverse patient populations. However, despite these benefits, there has been little focus on the environmental and economic sustainability of these new technologies. This is your opportunity to advance research in this rapidly changing and innovative field.

The objective of this internship is to help us evaluate the environmental and economic sustainability of electronic clinical outcome assessments (eCOA) and remote data collection methods and devices (including Digital Health Tools (DHTs) and ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD)) in clinical trials.

By conducting a comprehensive assessment, we aim to identify the potential benefits and challenges associated with these methods (vs. traditional approaches) and provide recommendations for their optimal and sustainable implementation for the Roche enterprise.

This internship position is located in Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom and can be onsite or hybrid.

    Key responsibilities

    • Though we want to work closely with the successful candidate to define the exact scope of the project, these are the proposed responsibilities:
    • Compile a comprehensive report summarizing the existing literature and industry insights on the sustainability of eCOA and remote data collection methods.
    • Develop a sustainability assessment framework tailored to the specific needs of Roche's clinical trials.
    • Engage with key internal stakeholders and develop a stakeholder feedback report, including insights from interviews or surveys.
    • Develop actionable recommendations for optimizing and promoting the sustainable use of eCOA and remote data collection methods in clinical trials.
    • Partner with the PCOR team to raise awareness of this topic internally and externally to Roche

    Who you are

Enrolled or have completed your Master’s studies at a university, preferably in the fields of psychology, health psychology, public health, or environmental sustainability (or related field) within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore you are:

    • Passionate about the life sciences sector and patient centered research (required)
    • In possession of strong research and analytical skills, with an interest in sustainability and healthcare (required)
    • An excellent communicator with strong presentation abilities (required).
    • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team (required).
    • Proficient in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods (preferred) .

    Technical details

    • Proposed start date of the internship: 1st July 2024
    • Length of the programme: 3 months
