The position
Roche's Product Development organisation is dedicated to delivering outstanding therapies to patients who need them. We conduct global clinical trials, analyse results, monitor safety, and work with regulatory authorities to provide truly differentiated medicines to patients. This internship will be working in the area of type 1 diabetes. Key deliverables will be a literature review project and preparation of materials to promote understanding of the disease and the drug development program within the company.
In addition, the Clinical Science department will organise meetings between the intern and members of Roche staff to widen the intern’s understanding of the drug development process, particularly late stage clinical development.
Responsibilities
Over the span of the internship, the intern would be exposed to foundational clinical science skills. They will have their own project work, and be able to work alone or with others to deliver this. The intern will give a final presentation outlining their project achievements at the conclusion of the internship to the Clinical Science department.
Key responsibilities may include, and are not limited to:
- Literature review to support a type-1 diabetes drug development program
- Preparing materials to promote understanding of the disease and the development program in the company
- Willingness to attend meetings as a development opportunity
For our 2024 internship we will only consider candidates who can attend the office in person in Welwyn Garden City for a minimum of 2 or 3 days a week.
Requirements/qualifications
- Ongoing enrollment in PhD or DPhil program required
- Life science or pharmacy degree
- Curiosity to find out more about late stage drug development e.g. phase 3 studies
- Willingness to develop new skills
- Ideally background in diabetes, metabolism or obesity
- Experience with translational research is preferred. The ideal candidate has some prior experience in drug development (e.g. involved in industry collaborations)
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and Google
- Has impeccable ethics
- Strong attention-to-detail
- Strong project management, organisation and time management skills; has a track record of consistently meeting or exceeding assigned goals and objectives
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good influencing and negotiation skills; works well with and through others
- Good judgement and decision-making skills
- Has a demonstrable orientation to team work; has had a successful, previous track record in working effectively and efficiently with cross-functional teams
