    The Data Engineer’s principal efforts will be focused on the development and use of programs for collecting, managing, processing, analyzing, reporting, and visualizing biomedical and healthcare data. This individual will also be involved with supporting a secure technical infrastructure for the integration and analysis of data from health data partners.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Technical Skills

    • Scale our data platform to handle vast quantities of complex data for our increasing number of health system customers and make them available to downstream application
    • Ensure that the data collected is of high quality and optimal for use.
    • Design, implementation, and testing of ETL systems
    • Implement alerting, continuous data monitoring, and input/output data validation in all our data pipelines to ensure the quality, consistency, and reliability of our data
    • Provide complete documentation and communication of all processes, methods, and results
    • Document processes and collaborate with administrative tasks related to the Real Word Data Hub
    • Support production solutions and the ongoing updating and maintenance of our reference data sources

    Partnership and Teamwork

    • Support Real Word Data Hub and Healthcare Data Engineer by evaluating and understanding our infrastructures and data systems, proposing appropriate solutions to guarantee our objectives.
    • Foster relationships within the Roche network to leverage different areas of expertise and contribute to the wider community.
    • Participate in technical negotiations with users to understand their requirements and propose solutions.

    Education and Technical Experience

    • Must be currently enrolled in a university, pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in healthcare informatics, information systems, computer science, data science, or related major
    • Some experience with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, or JVM language), databases (e.g., relational, non-relational, document, graph), web languages and technologies (e.g Javascript, React, D3, API’s)
    • High-performance and distributed computing, algorithm design and evaluation, software engineering, and machine learning
    • Manipulate, process, and extract value from large complex datasets and experience with data visualization
    • Experience with health data, including mapping data to standards such as common data models (e.g., OHDSI OMOP, CDISC SDTM and HL7 FHIR) and terminologies (e.g., ICD9/10, SNOMED, RxNorm, and LOINC)
    • Understanding of big data technologies such as Spark, scaling up as well as scaling down
    • Experience working with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP)

    • Big data technologies e.g Spark, Databricks
    • License for clinical practice (e.g., RN, PA, NP, DO/MD)
    • Clinical trial certifications CDISC (CDASH, SDTM, ADAM)
