Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability #IP2TIS offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

    As a sustainability and innovation intern, you will work on cutting-edge projects that align with our commitment to environmental responsibility, social impact, and forward-thinking solutions. The Global Procurement Sustainability Team sits within Global Procurement under Group Finance and are responsible for:

    • Leading the Scope 3 decarbonisation programme including reduction target setting proposal and roadmap and design of governance proposal - more than 90% of Roche’s carbon footprint comes from what we buy and what we sell.
    • Driving Tailored sustainability supplier engagement programme using existing processes (where possible) to enable our suppliers to commit to science based targets and subsequently reduce their carbon emissions.
    • Enabling the business to make educated environmentally sustainable buying decisions and meet its carbon reduction goals.
    • Ensuring that Roche maintains its leadership position on sustainability and becomes the leader in supply chain sustainability across our industry.

    This internship position is located in Welwyn, UK onsite/hybrid.

    Key responsibilities

    • Research carbon pricing models both within and outside of our industry to determine best in class approach;
    • Create a model for carbon pricing that satisfies Roche’s core financial objectives while factoring carbon (specifically Scope 3 emissions) into core business decision making;
    • Partner with 1 or more business areas to model how the carbon pricing will work in practice with a view to scaling globally. Consider procurement practices to question the paradigm relating to lowest cost wins, alongside business behavior and budget allocation;
    • Create a business case and recommendation for how to incorporate carbon pricing into business as usual for wide scale adoption and reporting to meet Net Zero by 2045 (including the link to reducing carbon in line with SBTi annual targets).

    Who you are

    Enrolled or have completed your Master’s studies at a university, preferably in the field of Maths, economics, business sustainability, environmental science or related study fields within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore you are:

    • Passionate about Sustainability! You want to put theory into practice to realize true net zero carbon that is global and scalable;
    • Good with numbers! Able to model carbon pricing scenarios taking into consideration the financial landscape of Roche;
    • An excel and Power BI whizz! Comfortable with digital tools that will support how you present the output of your work;
    • A self-starter and quick learner! Able to conduct your own research and digest context specific information promptly to factor into your modeling;
    • Not afraid to ask questions & be diplomatic! Comfortable in a state of the unknown and not afraid to question the status quo to move forward, able to understand the political landscape and present in a way that is sensitive to these in achievement of your set objectives.
