    An exciting opportunity currently exists for a Metallurgist/ Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) Engineer to join the IMRS (Inspection Maintenance and Repair Services) team in Derby.

    As a Metallurgist / Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) Engineer you’ll have an opportunity to use your knowledge of the materials used on the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) and the potential degradation methods. You need to know how to develop and carry out inspections to monitor these methods of degradation.

    What you’ll be doing

    You will be conducting inspection procedures at site on the NSRP and secondary systems, including the co-ordination of inspection tasks and being the customers point of contact during deployment.

    • Metallurgical inspection, including the use of surface replication techniques.
    • Production of documentation, procedures, and inspection reports
    • Visual inspection, including the use of borescopes, fibrescopes, videoprobes and camera systems.
    • Providing technical advice and support to the business on all metallurgical aspects.
    • Maintaining and developing existing metallurgical processes, in accordance with company processes and standards.

    • Metallurgical and visual inspection experience
    • Metallurgy testing experience Corrosion, Surface Finishing, replica etching
    • HNC/HND Degree or equivalent level in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering, or other relevant discipline,
    • Must have a flexible approach and be prepared to work away at site for a prolonged period (anywhere between one to four weeks).
    • Good communication skills, as you must be able to interact effectively and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
    • PC Literate, with experience of Microsoft Office packages and ideally some exposure to databases.

    Shifts / Travel

    Although Derby based, the role will entail travelling to various sites across the UK for varying durations and will normally consist of working shift patterns, usually based on 12-hour days or nights dependent on the task. The number of days a year site deployed is approximately 90 days, although durations will vary based on workload and training. Although site work is generally pre-planned, there will be the requirement to support emergent requests to deploy with less than 48 hours notice. Whilst in Derby, flexible working hours are in place from 7:00am to 6:00pm, working a standard 7.4 hours per day.
