    Kew scientists currently co-supervise almost 100 PhD students, and we host others on an ad-hoc basis as research visitors. As part of our commitment to train the next generation of experts there is scope to increase the opportunities for doctoral students to engage with us further by developing a programme of short, self-contained placements/PIPS (Professional Internships for PhD Students) across various departments at Kew.

    The role

    • Research requirements for PIPS across the range of Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) in our discipline;
    • Liaise with colleagues across Kew to collate a spreadsheet of potential placement projects;
    • Gather project outlines, ensuring consistency of information and approach;
    • Design and implement a new webpage as part of kew.org to showcase the placements available;
    • Communicate the available projects to the relevant DTPs;
    • Create a template for student feedback on completion of the placement.

    The intern will join Kew’s Science Education team and will also have opportunities to shadow team members in other aspects of our work to gain an insight into the range of activities involved in managing the science education programmes of a public-facing organisation such as Kew.
