RPS is looking for an Archaeological Researcher to join our Heritage Team at our office in the City of London. Our Heritage Team working on many of the biggest and most complex heritage projects in the country. We offer an unrivalled range of project experience, working with English Heritage and Historic Royal Palaces, major developers and regeneration leaders, and individual property owners.

Our current project work includes advising on the regeneration of a Grade I listed Castle, providing a sustainable extension to a Garden Town and providing innovative new uses for our Cold War Heritage. We offer the opportunity to work as part of major interdisciplinary teams and leading architects to provide outstanding new developments.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be responsible for assisting with carrying out the archaeological and built heritage research work for the Team, supporting the consultant team in the delivery of their work, primarily inputting into the compilation of desk based assessments, heritage statements, environmental statement chapters etc.
- Undertaking archaeological and built heritage research for consultants across all regional offices
- Ordering HER data searches
- Ordering historic maps online
- Visiting archives/record offices
- Site visits as and when required
- Updating relevant in-house databases accordingly
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated person who has an interest in heritage consultancy and research work. You’ll need to have:
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, Outlook etc. and IT in general
- Ability to carry out research to a tight timescales
- A good standard of Maths and English
- Excellent level of verbal and written communication skills.
- Good management of time/workload
- Degree level education or higher in a relevant subject
- Full clean driving licence
