    ADAS, a member of RSK Group have vacancies for Industrial Placement Students, looking to gain knowledge and experience in a research environment.

    Placements will be for a period of 1 year, preferably commencing in June/July 2024. An option to extend contracts through July and August 2025 will also be given. Six-month placements that cover March/April to Sept/Oct would also be considered. You will be required to work 40 hours a week as a member of the team responsible for setting up and undertaking field and plot experiments as part of the ADAS R&D agricultural, horticultural and agri-environmental programs.

    ADAS provide expert solutions and policy advice on agricultural and environmental issues. Our Sustainable Agricultural Solutions Business carry out a wide range of technical field, glasshouse and laboratory studies in a wide range of agricultural and horticultural crops, specialising in Crop Pathology, Physiology, Soils and Nutrition, Entomology and Weeds.

    Responsibilities

    • Candidates will be required to work 40 hours a week.
    • Due to the seasonal nature of the work a flexible approach is needed, as there will be a requirement to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods to ensure scientific objectives are met, and delivery within suitable weather conditions are optimized.
    • Sampling and disease monitoring of plants.
    • Assisting marking out and preparation of studies.
    • Application of treatments, including spraying of chemicals onto trials.
    • Assessments and observations.
    • Preparation and processing of plant, soil and water samples.
    • Harvesting of plots.
    • Collection on processing of data.
    • To ensure maximum flexibility and to reflect the Company's evolving needs, you may be asked to perform additional tasks that may be reasonably expected within your level of capability without additional remuneration.

    Qualifications and experience

    • Ideally you will be studying to degree level, or equivalent in an agricultural, horticultural, or plant-based science subject.
    • A full driving licence to drive manual vehicles in the UK is essential.
    • Successful candidates will need to be prepared to be ‘hands-on’ and learn skills on the job.
